Comodo Firewall is one of the best FREE Internet Firewall Software around [at least at present] and this is what we generally install for free to our customers [who requests it] and I have to say is very good indeed
ZoneAlarm FREE Firewall
Seems to be very good at making your PC [virtually] invisible to hackers and stops spyware from sending your data out to the Internet, but this is all relative and will always depend on how good 'you' are as a user and avoid clicking on the wrong links
Note: any Firewall Software will need to be learned by the user and the software will need to learn your habits too - please be patient, as at the beginning you may get more pop-ups than usual.
It may get a bit annoying, but please resist as it is learning your habits and will bother you much less after a while
