... a slighlty deeper explanation of Business or Private Data Recovery ...

- We can recover data from most devices and we can 'Destroy' it too!

With MSelectrical.co.uk, you can be assured that our primary concern is the security of your data.
Hard drives, floppy disks, CDs, USB storage (USB memory or USB cable connected storage devices) and all other media, if you need to 'destroy your data all data will be removed and/or rendered non-recoverable.

Unlike some Companies who just do remove data partitions and reformat hard drives, we at MSelectrical.co.uk use specialist software to overwrite and fully destroy resident data and check it is actually non recoverable by common means - for your peace of mind.
This data destroy service requires a small assessment fee

Even after Data Recovery, it may be possible some files are not recovered or/and some programs may need re-installing - Remember always to keep all 'Purchased' Programs' disks and Licence Keys in a safe place, in case you need them or you may have to re-purchase them!

- Most common causes and usual repair timetable - variable depending on number of problems/files corrupted/etc.
  • Accidental Deletion - usually from 1 hours - small amount of data
  • Accidental Formatting - usually from 2/3 hours - small amount of data
  • Computer Virus Attack - usually from 2/3 hours - small amount of data
  • Equipment Malfunction - usually from 2/3 hours - small amount of data
  • Hard Drive Crash - usually from 2/3 hours - small amount of data
  • Natural Disasters - usually from 2/3 hours - small amount of data
  • Power Surges and Outages - usually from 2/3 hours - small amount of data
  • System Software Corruption - usually from 1/3 hours

Notes: times mentioned above are 'manned' hours and repairs usually take up to 2/4 days - it means hours with the human intervention, while our various software are working, we need to check and eventually intervene during its process

Please also note: when we take longer than usual is mostly because customers attempted a recovery using 'FREE' tools from the internet, which most of the time are not used properly [as in: not knowing what you are doing ... ] therefore more damage is created and although we do save data most of the time, thanks to these customer interventions, more data is unrecoverable!

The worst offenders are the Registry Repair Tools - CAREFUL, as the registry is where your computer operative system reads ' to do instructions' in order to be able to handle software and hardware together with the help of hardware Drivers.
If a registry entry is deleted by these programs [and it will happen], you may not only impair a program to work or even run properly, but you may lock the operative system and that is when you cannot boot your computer anymore or get the blue screen of death!
Especially with Windows Vista, if you have a problem - please do not attempt anything, as it will be more difficult than other operative systems to recover it and after you have saved important data, we may need to WIPE the HDD and re-install the system at factory settings using the disks 'you must have' from the retailer that sold you your computer.

Those disks are like GOLD, they not only contain the operative system, but most importantly all the drivers needed to run the hardware part of your computer. Without them, it will not run properly and we will have to manually find them all and that will cost you more money than the repair itself as it will take loads of time.

Please take care of those disks - I even suggest you to do a copy.
Please also note those disks are unique to each model !

- There are mainly 2 levels of Data Recovery Service available on the market:

1. recovery of accidental deletion or format of files - average time is 3/4 working days - if nothing unusual happened [somebody tried a recovery and made it worse, etc.]

2. due to hardware failure - we do not do that at present - that requires special software and hardware to open for repair

Example:
Media storage [flash cards, memory stick, etc.]
Hard Drives [often called hard disk] - consider a hard drive like a pile of disks - similar to a CD cake and on each disk there is a arm with a optical reader/writer

The most difficult data to recover is often images when either the media / Hard Drive is faulty or it has been rewritten by Windows or it has bad sectors and this usually happens when a customer try to recover data using Windows and mainly images simply because images are usually the largest files and may cover large portions of a hard drive and a corruptions is more likely to happen there.

When a Hard Drive starts to have bad sectors, it means it is on its way out and an attempt or two using Windows can only make things worse and prompt an early departure of the Hard Drive and therefore rendering our job very difficult or impossible with the standard tools.

Hard Drive Data can still be recoverable and it will require 'expensive' equipment we do not have at present and it may cost you as much as the whole PC or more to recover, as the single disks inside the hard drive will have to be dismounted and read - if it still is possible.

That is why we ask 'not to' try and recover data yourself.

Sometimes the Hard Drive is so deteriorated that even us cannot recover all data, part or even nothing at all.

Bad sectors are like a virus, they can spread fast and the earlier you bring in your computer for check , the better is the chance to recover data.

- Computer [on the Bench] FREE Estimate of costs ...

Estimate of costs depend on many factors and at MSelectrical we take your computer data and hardware seriously and we do not do 'on the counter' free estimates and treat your Computer like a bag of potatoes and decide if they 'can' do it or not without even testing it!
That denotes someone unprepared to do this job with no qualifications or skills which simply filters what 'they can possibly repair or not' and even send it elsewhere for repair, without you knowing it!
That does not make sense, as all Electronics Equipment and especially now in the Digital age, you cannot possibly determine the problems by looking at the box! It needs to be put on the 'prepared' bench and test it - that is what is called Estimate of costs and if the product can be repaired at all.

Free Estimates was invented in the early 1990's by unscrupulous Companies, 'just to get' the job off Professional Small or Large Companies.

A typical Window System Repair and Testing would be around £. 50/60 [it may vary] - usually and if there are no other 'time consuming' problems - you will be notified at each step.

Typically, estimated costs will depend on various factors like:

• Accidental deletion of data
• Accidental reformatting of partitions
• Applications that do not run
• Computer will not boot or recognize by operating system
• Computer will not boot, black screen with a request of a missing system file
• Computer from a Fire & water damage
• Data Corruption
• Hard drive crashes
• Hard drive failure at component level
• Hard drive with burnt electronics components on its external circuit board
• Hard drive with clicking noise
• Hard drive or partitions inaccessible [the system BIOS does not find the Hard drive]
• Media surface with virus and/or physical damage
• Virus attacks while working with your computer

- What to do when your Computer [Laptop or Workstation] is failing...
  • Turn your computer off immediately - further operation may damage 'your' data beyond repair
  • Do not try and restart your computer
  • Do not install or re-install any software - anything at all
  • Do not shake, knock, disassemble, remove your computer hard drive, if you suspect it is damaged
  • Do not attempt to dry a wet computer - if you spilled a liquid of any kind
  • If the data is of high-value, do not use file recovery or other utility software - if you do not know what you are doing
  • Never attempt to operate any visibly damaged devices

SWITCH YOUR COMPUTER OFF and bring it down, be careful not to bang it anywhere in case the Hard Drive gets worse and we will try our best. It is best if you do not try to take the Hard Drive out of the computer - the less you move it - the better.

We only do recovery if you bring the 'whole untouched' Computer down and not the HDD only as a repair job.

Remember the main thing: BACKUP, BACKUP, BACKUP your most important data and keep a copy of the Recovery Disk you should get from where you purchased your Computer!

A note of advice: when you purchase a new computer 'always' ask for the Operative system disk, Licence and the Recovery Disk which will set your Computer in the initial state (as when you purchased it).

Some LARGE Companies lately do not give a recovery disk, some 'sell' it after and some just do not bother to protect their own customers!
