Wireless ADSL Network problem - click to open

Typical problems:

1. I cannot set it up !
2. How do I set-up a 'secure' connection ?
3. It keeps disconnecting ...
4. Your computer may show a very weak signal strength
5. Connection may be very slow
6. Your wireless signal quality may fluctuate or even disappear completely, in different parts of your home or work or your business

How many of you:

1. ... know about networking?
2. ... know if they have a secure network?
3. ... 'believe' they are secure, but they are not?
4. ... called somebody to have your network set-up or fixed or secured or all of them and then after a week or so, you are back to square one?
5. ... have spent a lot of money and had it fixed more than once?

We could go on and on with this ...

Often you read articles and the best advice for weak signal/disturbs/etc. is always: move the router on a different place, move it away from a wireless appliance, get a high antenna for your wireless router ...

If you are receiving interference from other wireless equipment, using a antenna, will also BOOST THE INTERFERENCE!

Our solution is:
switch it off and use cables!
We do know it may be annoying to have a cable around the house, but it is worth it - when finished, put it away - it takes only 2 minutes.

You may have a intermittent connection after:

1. You did not set it up properly
2. You did set it up properly, but it did not last
3. You did set it up properly, but at certain time of the day you have problems
4. You had a Computer Technician at your house or business and fixed it and it keeps happening

The above generally is due to:

1. 'simply the nature' or present wireless ADSL modem/routers
2. there are FAR TOO MANY around and they transceivers disturb each others (yours and your neighbours).
3. there is a local Council 'very strong' transmitter in your area and you happen to be within their range!
4. there is a local Wi-Fi transceiver
5. even your own Microwave Oven can disturb!
6. your or your neighbour's Audio / Video Sender
7. Wireless USB Printers - YES, those too!

If you own a video sender connected to your kitchen area, you may have noticed how the microwave disturbs (a lot if within 2/3 metres) or getting a nice PRRR from the laptop wireless connection.

Do you know why? They all are within the same frequency range and we are getting clogged up with too many wireless connections.
They do not need to be on the exact same frequency, but simply on 1/8 1/2 1/3 of the frequency or simply get a 1/8 1/2 1/3 of a different frequency, which is from a very strong (powerful) transmitter near your house or and have its transmitter not exactly well tuned and in need of a Radio Communication Technician to tidy it up - a bit like our local Wind Power Generators. It does not disturb all frequency in the same manner, but some of them more and usually channels 48 and 53 and 55 are more disturbed usually and not always they are at the same level.

Do you know why? For 2 main reasons:

1. it depends on the speed of the wind and on its direction too - I have noticed usually when they are oriented towards west they disturb more

2. also the trees have grown - A LOT! Ever noticed that? But we cannot 'cut' them - obviously and nobody ever talked about it and with the Freeview Power at only 10% [or so they say] until 2012, well... there is no much to do.
I personally kept an eye of the situation and about 3 years ago I started to have problems on my terrestrial receiver. What I did was, I purchased a very good aerial with internal amplifier [shielded] and all went better. Then after a year or less, it started again - guess what? The trees have grown high, then the wind Power Generators went up and made things worse.
Then the Wind Power Generators got the 'full' blame and you got the free installation of the worst receiver I ever seen on the market and I bet after a year it failed and even earlier than that! Am I right? Who paid for that? It is not really clear! Now, many of you have spent money on a new 'better' receiver and one that records too!

The above was only to let you know how electrical Radio interference generally works.
Getting back to computers ...

If you do use your Laptop at the same exact place every time (at home or work - we are all a bit on the habit of things!) - well, connect a cable from your modem / router and hide it behind your chair/table or whatever you are and pull it out when you need it.

You will get a straight connection in less than 30 seconds normally and you will keep your laptop cooler as it will not use the wireless transmitter (switch it off on your laptop - some laptops have a manual switch [better] and some have a software switch). Check you laptop manual on how to keep it switched off permanently. You can always switch it on when on the move- if needed.

I also suggest you to keep a 3m / 5m network cable within your laptop bag - you never know. If you visit friends or family, it is likely they have a free port on their router and you just connect your network cable and that is it!

and it is more SECURE !

Our solution is:
switch it off and use cables!
we know it may be annoying to have a cable around, but it is worth it.

I personally did a Data Transmission Course, but I do not do Networking Repairs and setting-up, because I do know the nature of Wireless Transceivers (the present one). I used to be a Radio Communication System Technician (see our About Us page for a bit more info).

We have our home and shop ADSL on cables - no wireless!

SWITCH THE WIRELESS OFF and connect the cable, SOLVED all your problems and you have also saved money!

By the way, we do not do Wireless Networking - we leave that to the 'Experts' !

Note: there are Audio / Video senders that work at a higher frequency - but cost double and if your neighbours have old senders, it may be a waste of money. Secure connections can be breached too!
The only way to have a always working wireless and secure (properly secure!), is to have a purpose built house and by 'Real Professionals' which will not only wire the whole house, but set 'mini' transmitters around the house at a different frequency' than the standard which will be connected [wired connected] to a modem / router [not wireless]. Also all your computers will have to have a 'good' wireless connection program.
Do you have thousands of £££ to waste?
