It is not easy to live a 'normal' life these days !
There are all sorts of threats on the Net.
Spoofing, Phishing Phorm and so on but one that really indent our liberty is Phorm.
Spoofing is the forgery of a email header [in short!]
The header (as the word says) is the top part of a email and describes the originator, the addressee and other listed recipients.
The spoofing is in fact the tampering of this part to make you [the intended recipient] believe it came from a know source.
This is usually used to lure you into clicking a link or do something as asked and the final intention is obviously taking your money under false pretences or steal your private data/card details/etc.
IP SPOOFING
IP spoofing is simply a technique used to gain access to your computer [again] under false pretences.
It show a 'Trusted' IP address [ written like this example 63.236.18.21 ] and if for example the IP they used matches a trusted application, it almost certainly allowed to enter your computer.
At that point the intruder has free access.
Phishing is really like Fishing and you are the intended bait !
The Phishers simply create a kind of email that looks very much official and usually the main names used are: eBay, MSN, PayPal and sometimes very well known Banks.
If it happens to be your Bank, you almost have an immediate 'positive' response by default - my Bank = Friend !
Then they ask you toi confirm your personal data and change your log-in details.
That way they will get all your details, log-in your Bank account and transfer money or simply spend it !
So, remember: all these Companies and Banks will never ask your details via email - ever.
The EU seems has started proceedings against the UK Government for failing to take action against adware Company Phorm which seems to be infringing the EU consumer Privacy Laws.
Initially this Phorm was used to track user behaviour [where they come from. where they went, etc.], but now this Phorm [which is now also a term for Internet Spying really] has gone beyond the usual road and helped by ISPs like BT, the Phorm system is not tracking the adverts anymore, but IT IS TRACKING YOU !
They seem to be using the DPI (Deep Packet Inspection) Technology installed within your ISP servers.
In simple words Phorm now tracks you [and us !] everywhere you go and builds up a profile of YOU.
What you like/dislike/etc. and allows them to sell advertising space target to what YOU like and getting you rom the weakest point.
With DPI they can hold personal information about you, like having a spy following you all your life!
Do you like it? Is it fair?
